There’s no arguing that Drake has been on top of his game this year. Releasing hit songs one after the other. This song is a light-hearted, fun track that will be featured as a bonus track on Drake’s upcoming album, “Take Care” dropping 11/15. The track has a freestyle feel to it. It was released with only two verses, one from Drizzy and one from Weezy. A few days later, it feels like the track was completed when fellow Young Money member, Tyga, hopped on. The jerkin, Bay-area sound that the track possesses made Tyga’s feature a perfect fit. Tyga reps LA so it only seemed right.
Drizzy is making it very clear that the money is pouring in and that you can’t touch him right now. The newly 25 year old states “That’s how you feel?…I’m 25, sitting on 25 mill.” He also mentions his routine relations with girls in Miami and the trill-ness of his team that doesn’t need a mascot. YOLO, the focal point of the track, is the motto that is being referred to in the track’s title. YOLO, for those of you that aren’t aware stands for “You Only Live Once.” The song, released just a few days ago has started a Twitter frenzy. YOLO is officially now everyone’s favorite motto.
Surprisingly, to me, the song has been stirring up some controversy since it’s release. The track has a LA/Bay Area type beat and Drake shouts out Bay area legend Mac Dre who passed away back in 2004. Some natives of the area weren’t too happy with that and saw it as fake and a cheap way of trying to gain credibility being that Drake is from Toronto. I personally don’t see the big deal. Since when do you have to be from a particular city to pay homage to a legend? I can almost guarantee that Drizzy saw the gesture as being completely harmless, as do I.
Production by Toronto’s own, T-Minus. T-Minus is also the talented producer behind “I’m One One”(along with Noah “40″ Shebib), “She Will” and “Make Me Proud.”
