How I Made an Additional $1700 a Month Without Working!

Allow me to reintroduce myself……My name is The Budgetnista (aka Tiffany). And I LIVE for finding ways to increase my revenue with little to no work.

The Budgetnista’s definition of WORK: Doing something that I do not like, enjoy, or want to do, ex: I love teaching financial literacy at The Boys and Girls Club. Although hosting my seminars there is FOR work, it is NOT work.

Just so we’re clear, Craig of www.craigslist.org is my new best friend. Don’t worry, you’ll understand why by the end of this post.

Third;

On to the business at hand; How exactly did I make an additional $1700 a month without working? (drum roll please) I used www.craigslist.org, that’s how!

The first $400…..

About a month ago I decided that I’d like to make an additional $400 a month while doing something fun. I went to my go-to side hustle website, www.craigslist.org. I was a teacher for ten years and always relied on craigslist to help me find tutoring and afterschool jobs, so I began my search there. After perusing the education section on craigslist I decided to take a walk on the wild side and look under the etcetera section (JACKPOT!). The etcetera section houses random job posts that don’t fit under the normal categories, hence the name etcetera.

One of the first jobs I found in the etcetera section was a request for a fashion tour guide in NYC! The guide’s responsibility is to hangout with a group of women, take them to designated sample sales in the NYC fashion district, then end the tour at a lounge! That’s a job?! Yes! Did I mention that the tour company pays $100 per 4hr tour? That’s $25/hr, not bad for doing something fun (aka NOT WORK). I applied on a Tuesday, interviewed on Friday and was hired by Monday! I signed up to do a tour a week….. $400/mon.

The last $1300…..

I bought a condo 5 years ago. The condo is about an hour from work, so I decided to move closer in an effort to save my sanity, personal life and gas.  I had no idea how to find a tenant, so I turned to good old craigslist again. I took pictures of my condo on a Saturday (see here), posted the ad (for free) on Sunday (see here), showed it Sunday night, had a credit check run-received bank statements-references- first and last month’s rent- and had the lease signed on Tuesday! (NOT WORK) $1300/mon

Sidenote: My new tenant is so awesome! She’s nice, clean and her credit score is astronomical! Not only did she give me first and last month’s rent, but she gave me a years worth of postdated rent checks (all marked for the first of the month)! That means I don’t have to wait for rent! All I have to do is cash the checks I have each month! (Sooooo NOT WORK!)

So now you see why Craig from craigslist is my new best friend? Sorry Dreena…. He helped me find both a job and a tenant in a week! When’s the last time your best friend helped you increase your monthly income by $1700 ($1300+$400) in 7 days or less?
